Who pays for our chocolate?

Do you like chocolate? Have you ever wondered where it comes from and under what conditions it is produced? At our stand, you can find out how our daily enjoyment of chocolate in Switzerland is linked to the living conditions of cocoa farmers in West Africa. How much of the price of a bar of chocolate actually reaches them? How is the rest divided between manufacturers and retailers? And what message would the producers like to share with us as consumers? A key problem in the cocoa industry is child labour: in Ghana, around 50 per cent of children in cocoa-growing regions are affected by it. What can be done about it? And how are researchers at ETH finding out which measures are actually effective in reducing child labour? Come and explore this global issue at our stand – and discuss possible solutions with us.
